Counseling for Parents of Children with Special Needs
Guidance & Support in North Carolina
The challenges of this journey
The journey as a parent of a child with special needs starts long before an official diagnosis.
Many parents report feeling overwhelmed, ashamed, guilty, and/or afraid. In addition, relationships can suffer (when you need them now more than ever). Many do not understand the difficulties that one faces when raising a child with special needs which can result in judgement from family members, friends, and strangers.
Sleep is often disturbed for a variety of reasons which further negatively impacts everything. All of this takes a cumulative toll and can leave one feeling less present for your child (which can start a whole new cycle of guilt).
